Ansbach Early Scenic Coffee Pot

This is a large coffee pot with its lid made by Ansbach in the 18th century in their early days around 1760. They started making porcelain around 1758 and flourished from 1758 through 1777. Ansbach closed somewhere around 1860 but was already in private hands since 1807. The pot is marked is unmarked but the style of pot as well as that characteristic maskaron / lady's head under the spout, that fancy fruit finial with all those leaves and the handle shape give it away as having been made by this maker. Not a common maker to find at all and this scenic pieces is a very early example. It has a nice hand painted scene to the front of the pot with some puce scrollwork under it with lots of flowers scattered around the rest of the piece. Lots of green spots to cover flaws in the porcelain from when it was made. Normally maker's did tiny leaves or flowers but on this early example they just added a spot of green color. Gold trim to the spout and top edge and a puce trim to the handle. The lid has a pear fruit finial to it with a long branch coming off it with lots of leaves. More elaborate than all other finials in the porcelain world I think. There is also a small scene with puce scrolls under it on the lid and some flowers. The pot including lid is about 10.75 inches tall and 5.5 inches in diameter. It is about 6.375 inches from handle to spout. The piece displays nicely but has had a museum repair to it. So it is still visible. There is a chip to the point coming off the handle as shown, there is a large chunk that come out of the top with a hairline going into the piece in the other direction from that and the lid has been in pieces and repaired with a piece of the branch missing from the finial and some of the leaves are chipped as well. The repair does the trick but off course it could be done much better if one wanted to hide it perfectly. A good restorer could do that easily. Still an amazing example!
