Lippizan Stallion Scene Plate

This is a superb plate made by Albin Denk of Austria in the early 20th century. Albin Denk still exists as a store that specialized in table culture in Vienna, Austria. I am not sure if they ever actually made porcelain or if the mark is more of a distributor mark. Either way it is an unusual plate that I could not find again. The rim has a nice cobalt blue ground color to it withsome gilding on raised elements. More gilding around the well edge of the plate but the star of the show :) is the center decoration. It has a hand painted scene of a lippizan stallion of the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. The white horse and rider are permorming a position known as Levade where the horse stands on its hind legs only with the front legs raised quite a bit off the ground. The rider is wearing the typical outfit and the horse has all the typical gear. A really unsual scene and very nice especially in combination with the blue ground rim. The plate is in perfect condition as shown. It is 9.5 inches in diameter and 0.875 inches tall so a very nice size. It is marked underneath with the black Albin Denk mark as shown inculding the Habsburg double headed eagle. Please email me for more information or photos.
