Bayeux Scenic Vase

This is a really nice and quite large scenic vase definitely made by Bayeux in France during the mid 19th century during the Langlois period . This is when they made their best peices and very heavily influences by the Asian taste. The vase has a really nice size being 16.25 inches tall with a diameter of 6 inches. It is hand painted with a really nice typically French scene on the front including two swans in some water with a huge basket filled with flowers and a nice landscape surrounding. What makes it very typically Bayeux are the amsazing Asian inspired flowers all over the vase. They did this in raised heavily enamels that gives them depth unlike any other maker. Just stunning! There are flowering vies all around the scene and single flowers to the back side of the piece. The top and bottom have a gold trim to the edges as well as a typical cobalt blue ground color with some more gold trim with a thin red line between. It is a stunning example of their work and unique among porcelain- that Chinese / french mix. The vase displays perfectly but had been drilled as a lamp in the past and restored though it will not hold water properly again. A bit of gold wear to the edges and a thin glaze line to the neck that does not go into the porcelain - their glaze is very thick and prone to this sort of issue. The piece is unmarked but that is very normal for these makers of this period or the mark could have been where they drilled it and is now gone.
