Brussels Playing Card Cup & Saucer

This is a rare treat made by the porcelain maker in Etterbeek near Brussels around 1790. Etterbeek was founded in 1787 by Chretien Kuhne who was German and they existed until about 1803 so not very long at all. The pieces were made in the French style. This cup and saucer here is a very nice example of their work and of superb quality. Probably the nicest piece that I ahve ever seen decorated with playing cards! Both pieces are nicely hand painted with lots of playing cards in different suits all over including some face cards which are fully hand painted not half transfer as one sees on most playing card decorated pieces. One face card is labeled Alexandre likely after Alexander the Great, another one Pallas after the Titan god of battle and the last Argine which is derived from Latin for Queen I believe. The rest of the set has a pleasant green ground and lots of gilding to it. The set is in perfect condition with some very minor wear if any at all. As nice as they come! The set is marked underneath with their first mark of a connected EB in red as shown. The cup is 2.5 inches tall and 2.5 inches in diameter. The saucer is 1.125 inches tall and 5.125 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
