Capodimonte Scenic Cup

This is a very rare and superb cup made by Capodimonte in about 1750. An incredibly rare piece since any porcelain by this maker is almost impossible to find these days. The piece is made of soft paste porcelain and has a hand painted scene to the front of a gentleman in a landscape surrounding with a building in the background. Many of these scenes are said to have been painted by Giovanni Caselli but his style is different so I am not sure of the painter in this case. The top outside edge and around the footring have a simple gold trim , the inside top rim has a nice gold trim quite typical for this maker and the nicely shaped handle with some gilding to it is also very typical. Capodimonte porcelain from this period is exceedingly rare and I buy any piece I can find within the affordable range. The cup is 2.5 inches tall with a diameter of 2.5 inches. It is marked underneath which is always a bonus! It has the blue fleur de lis mark of Capo di Monte as shown. These are often messy but this cup has a nice clear example! The cup is in superb condition - as nice as they come with a couple of small divots along the very edge but these are glazed over so originally to the making and not damage. It's just an amazing piece and not one you'll find again! Please email me for more information or other pictures.
