Kakiemon Ointment Pot #1

This is a rare a pot a fard or pommade (for makeup or ointment cream) made by Chantilly around 1735. It is made of soft paste porcelain and painted with a polychrome flower design in the Kakiemon colors and style. There are tow floral designs to the main body and one to the lid. Their enamel colors are just stunning - among the very best in the porcelain world! The flowers are superb and there is even a bug on one side and the lid and the lid has a nice flower finial. The flowers are after their Japanese originals as are the colors off course. The pot and lid are in great condition with just some issues from the making as is to be expected from these early pieces - the worst being a spot where there was some sort of inclusion to the paste which left a tiny indent without glaze near the bottom of the pot. As nice an example as you will find! I just love these early soft paste pieces with the Kakiemon colors!!! The set is not marked underneath but that is not unusual. Definitely from the period and by this maker. The piece is 3.125 inches tall with a diameter of about 2.5 inches at the widest point. A rare find and a real beauty!
