Famille Verte Johanneum Number Plate

This is a superb large deep plate / charger / serving dish made in China in the early 18th century - around 1720 or maybe a touch earlier. In Asian porcelain dating it is Jingdezhen , Qing dynasty (1644 - 1911), Kangxi period (1662 - 1722). The piece is hand painted with a famille verte design of double lines in under glaze blue along the edges of the rim as well as the well, a lotus blossom design in relief to the rim (I tried to show that but it didn't come out too great), a polychrome central design of a vase filled with flowers sitting on a small table and a polychrome design between the well of the plate and the rim of flowers and little cartouches of flowers and an insect. Brown trim to the very edge of the plate. There is even a polychrome design to the udnerside rim as shown. How cool is that! Really a nice looking piece! What makes it extra special is the fact that it once belonged to the collection of August the Strong one of the most powerful rulers in German history and the guy behind the start of the Meissen porcelain factory. The plate is in good condition but not perfect - it does have a small rim chip as shown from which a hairline goes into the rim about 1.5 inches long. It is stable and could be restored perfectly but does display really well the way it is. The piece is not marked underneath which is common on Chinese porcelain from this period but does have the incised Johanneum number as shown. N.132 over I (The I is for famille verte pieces and the number is correct for this design). The dish is 1.75 inches tall and has a diameter of 12.875 inches so rather large. It also has an old museum ID underneath that is only visible when held at a proper angle to the light. It looks to be S0413 RJGLA or something along those lines. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

The Johanneum marks denotes pieces were part of the Collection of Augustus The Strong, and housed in the Japanese Palace in Dresden. The Johanneum was the name of the building in Dresden which is now a museum and contains the former Royal Saxon Porcelain Collection started and largely formed in the so-called Japanese Palace by Augustus the Strong, Elector of Saxony. The pieces from the original collection bear marks referring to an inventory begun in 1721 and these have become knows as the Johanneum numbers or marks.
