Cockpit Hill Creamware Cup & Saucer

This is a Cockpit Hill Creamware teabowl and saucer, circa 1760. This lovely teabowl and saucer have emphatic decoration of flowers in iron red and black. Very thinly potted, they are feather light and a delight to hold in the hand. The kilns at Cockpit Hill in Derby may have been the first to fire porcelain in this bustling city that later produced so much fine ware at a number of factory locations, including the Derby Porcelain Manufactory. These earliest kilns at Cockpit Hill probably were closed down or superseded before 1779, when William Duesbury became the sole owner. Condition is quite good, with only a faint half-inch hairline at the rim of the saucer. This piece belongs to a good friend of mine. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $350
