Blue & White Reticulated Basket

This is a really nice reticulated / pierced openwork basket made by Derby around 1765. These blue and white pieces are quite hard to find and this one here is a superb example. It is hand painted with a Chinese Island scene including a pavillion in a landscape surrounding. The inside top rim has a nice blue design all around and the handles have terminals with leaves and flowers to it. The handle shape is typical for this maker! The outside of the reticulated sides have applied flowers to each intersection and there is a blue trim to the bottom edge. A really superb example! The piece is in excellent condition without any damages or repairs. Some minor manufacturing flaws typical of these earlyw ares but it displays perfectly and looks amazing. The basket is not marked which is not uncommon on their early wares but does have three patch marks typical of Derby from this period. It is 2.25 inches tall (plus a bit extra at the handles), 6.625 inches wide including the handles and 6.125 inches deep. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $1249
