Melchior Kids Playing Figurine

This is a very rare large figure made by Frankenthal in 1783. It is one of my favorite pieces Melchior modeled for Frankenthal and is one of those perfect display pieces since it has something going on on all side and is larger than the usual piece yet small enough to stick anywhere and it would look superb to say the least! The figure is of a kid riding a large dog covered in a blanket with a younger kid pulling the tail of the dog, an older girld holding the blanket underneath the dog's neck and a young child sitting on the base doing her own thing as little children often do. The figurine has his typical multi tiered rock base. It is modeled perfectly and hand painted very nicely to be one elegant and fun piece to look at. The figure is about 7 inches tall, 9 inches wide and 6 inches deep. It is marked with the CT under the crown in underglaze blue underneath with the date mark of 83 - the 8s of Frankenthal are often mistaken for 4s so people often say it is a 43 which is not the case - the eight has the typical open parts to it so it looks a bit funny but that is the norm! There is also an incised M which stands for the Bossierer Sebastian Marx . The figurine is in great condition with the left foot of the baby missing a piece and the head of the older girl was off and has been re glued which is hard to spot. There is a little roughness to her bonnet in one spot. The piece displays perfectly and if need be a restoration would be an easy and fairly cheap endeavor. An amazing piece and very rare.
