Mehun Pate sur Pate Vase

This is a superb large pate-sur-pate vase made by Mehun in the mid 19th century. Mehun-sur-Yevre / Pillivuyt was founded around 1853. The piece is stunning and one of the best pate sur pate scenes I have ever seen. The scene is of four Asian characters in a landscape surrounding. Three of them are playing flutes and one of them is just watching. Out of one of the flutes tiny Asian characters come dancing and floating. There are rocks and birds in the scenes as well as trees and bamboo. Lots and lots of superb detail down to tiny flowers on their dresses! The scene goes all around the vase which has a greyish ground color with simple gold rings as trim and two round loop handles. A truly spectacular vase. The piece is in superb condition with wear to the gold trim and one handle has been touched up a bit - looks like a small chip was gilded over. The vase is about 12 inches tall and a diameter of 5.25 inches. The piece is marked underneath with a green Mehun script mark as well as CP & co (last part is hard to make out).
