Blue Cornflowers Pot de Creme

This is a pot de creme or pot au jus made in France in the late 18th century. This type of cup was used for hot chocolate or meat juices (like a strong broth) to drink. The paste is really nice and white and the hand painted blue corn flower decoration looks stunning on it especially with the gold trim to the edges, finial and handle. It is in perfect condition with just some manufacturing flaws to the inside from when it was made in the shape of inclusions in the paste. Blue cornflowers were a favorite of Marie Antoinette and thus became very popular during this time period. The piece is not marked underneath but is definitely French from this period! The cup and lid are 3 inches tall and 2.25 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
