Empire Style Inkwell

This is a really nice empire style inkwell made by one of the Paris area makers in the 19th century. The blue and gold combination is always nice but here we have a great shape on top of it and it makes for a really stunning piece! There is an eagle head to either end of the piece with lots of detail to it and fully gilded. Raised relief gold trim on white ground to the top edge with a fancy raised design to the front and back on blue ground. The foot has a gold trim to the edge - it is attached to the main body with a metal piece as shown. There are two inserts - nice to still ahve them. One has four holes to it and a little central finial and the other a large and a small hole with a little handle to one side. Both of these come out. The main body has a little holder for the quill that is white with gold trim - it is permanently attached and tehre is a little white area to the front to lay something down on. The piece is in superb condition - one of the inserts has a chip to the edge as shown - it either never fully came off or has been reglued nicely with the white areas colored in a bit. Very little wear at all to the piece. The glaze in that white area up top has been scratched a bit to remove something - possibly astain or firing spot and the udnerside glaze also has a large area where it was sanded or ground down likely to remove a maker's mark. The piece displays perfectly and looks amazing! It is 5.625 inches tall, about 8 inches wide and just over 4 inches deep. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
