Bayeux Pair of Vases

This is a great pair of vases made in France probably at Bayeux during the Gosse period of the mid 19th century. This type of decoration is hard to find but was used by different makers in France and even by KPM in Germany during a short time period. Each vase has a salmon colored ground color to parts of the outside and the top inside and is then hand painted with African/ Tribal type designs all around in orange and black tones with raised white dots as well as gold designs to the white ground areas. It's an unusual decoration including larger figures dressed in traditional clothes, palm trees and different implements around the top I cannot all make out. There are some musical instruments, a crown and a lot of other items. The foot has a relief design to it highlighted in black. A hard to find style and to have a pair is very rare. The pair is in great condition with bit of wear to the gilding mainly around the top. No chips, etc. The set is not marked except for an incised letter or scribble but that is pretty normal! One vase is 9.75 inches tall while the other one is 9.875 inches tall and each having a diameter of 4.5 inches. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $699
