Harlequin with Bird & Cat

This is a superb figurine made in Germany in the late 19th century or early 20th century. This piece is often attributed to the French copy artist Samson but I believe it is much more likely it was made by the German maker Bock Wallendorf which is very well known to ahve used many of the 18th century marks on their pieces to try to fool collectors. Either way it is a really fun figure of a harlequin holding a bird in his one hand with a cat sitting next to him looking rather intently at the poor bird. The harlequin is dressed nicely with a colorful shirt that has playing cards painted on on part of one sleeve and the front half of his shirt with the red hearts and black spades on the other half and a colorful checkered pattern on the rest. Red and white pants and some applied flowers to the base make this a fun figurine to look at! Off course this is copied from the mid 18th century Meissen original! The figurine is in great condition with one wing of the bird chipped and a chip to the back of his hat. It displays perfectly! The figure is marked underneath with the under glaze blue CC under a corwn mark originally used by Ludwigsburg in the 18th century. The figurine is about 4.75 inches tall, 3.375 inches wide and 2.625 inches deep. Please email me for more information or photos.
