Gaudy Welsh Set

This is a Gaudy Welsh tea service, 17 Pieces. For eye-catching display, these mid-19th century patterns created in Staffordshire for American customers are hard to beat. Collectors and decorators who are looking to accent a Victorian or Civil War-era room couldn’t do better than this impressive set. The styles first appealed to the Pennsylvania Dutch and the immigrant Welsh, so when their popularity spread throughout the developing nation the names spread with them. Typically they are decorated in bold iron red, cobalt blue and light green. The Gaudy Welsh (as distinct from the Gaudy Dutch) often added copper and pink luster as accents. This set comprises a teapot, sugar bowl, milk jug, waste bowl, large plate, seven saucers and five cups. The colors are still bright and vibrant after 150 years and more. Condition is excellent, with only a few chips to the enamels and slight staining. The spout of the teapot has two reglued chips. An impressive set. This set belongs to a good friend of mine.
