Nathusius Kassel Scene Pipe

This is a pipe bowl made most likely by Nathusius of Althaldensleben or possibly Ilmenau in the first half of the 19th century. The porcelain pipe bowl is hand painted with a superb scene of the German city of Kassel (spelled Cassel until the early 20th century and written here with the old style s that looks like an f). The scene is very nice and goes almost all around the bowl. It is edged with a thin black line trim and then a thicker gold frame. Name of the scene in black script underneath. It still has its original lid which could use a cleaning. The pipe is marked with the under glaze blue line mark on the bottom of the stem as shown. The pipe is 4.75 inches tall including the lid and has a diameter of 1.25 inches. The piece is in great condition with just a touch of wear to the gilding and it was used so could use a cleaning to the lid and inside. The pipe comes with possibly the nicest stem I have seen. Made of horn with brass rings that are amazingly still all present. The only issue is the flexible part covered by cloth is damaged but that is quite often the case and could be fixed easily. The horn part are in amazing shape. The entire pipe is about 15 inches tall. Please email me for more information or photos.
