Kiss of the Wave Scenic Plaque

This is a nice porcelain plaque made in Germany in the late 19th century. It is hand painted with a very nicely done scene after an oil painting done by the Austrian artist Gustave Wertheimer called "The Kiss of the Wave". or "The Kiss of the Siren". He painted that around 1882. This little plaque here is signed Constance and dated 1898 so pretty soon after the original. Nice to have a dated piece! The painting is of a young sailor / gentleman in a shipwreck kissing a nude lady lying down on a large wave. Dreary grey background to reflect the bad weather that just passed. A really nice scene and well painted. Plus on porcelain it could last forever. The piece is not marked in the back so hard to tell more info without that but it is a nice quality piece! The visible part of the5.5 inches wide by 3.75 inches tall. The actual plaque is probably a quarter inch bigger or so. The frame is a bit odd. The wooden frame with the brass decoration is the original one but it seems like it was ready to fall apart so another frame was added around that so keep it safe. It makes it rather heavy for this little plaque! It sort of fits the piece though I must say! The plaque is in good condition with a spot of scratches/wear to the top left and top right as shown. The frame could probably use replacement but it does work as is. The entire peice is 8.5 inches wide 6.75 inches tall and 1.125 inches thick. Please email me for more information or photos.
