Mercury Pipe

This is a porcelain pipe bowl made in Germany in about 1838. The bowl is handpainted with what seems like an armorial but in the center is the god Mercury with surrounded by things that represent what he stands for like ships, money, a message and a medical staff. I saw another pipe like this recently that was for the guild of salesmen and apparently Mercury was the protector of salesmen as well so it fits. The pipe is in great condition with wear to the gilding and a little oxidation to the lid but minor. The pipe is marked underneath the bottom inlet with a blue line often said to be by KPM but also used by Ilmenau I believe. The other side says H.L. Maerten Duderstadt 1838. It is 5.75 inches tall and 1 inch in diameter. Please e-mail me for more information or photos.

Price is $299
