Lady Portrait Pipe

This is a pipe bowl made most likely by Nathusius of Althaldensleben in the first half of the 19th century. The porcelain pipe bowl is handpainted with a superb scene of a nicely dressed lady surrounded by a gold frame. The lady is wearing a black and white skirt as well as a fancy hat while tanding on some sort of balcony or by a window. The pipe is marked with the underglaze blue line mark on the bottom of the stem as shown. The pipe is 4.25 inches long and has a top diameter of 1.125 inches. The piece is in great condition with two tiny chips on the very top inside rim from the making which would be covered up by a lid which is lacking here. The pipe comes with possibly the nicest stem I ahve seen. Made of horn with inlaid mother of pearl and a flexible top part which is still in amazing shape. The V shaped bottom part is lacking the metal ring where the rest of the stem fits in and has a crack there but otherwise is it perfect. The entire pipe is about 14 inches long.
