Gotha Augsburg Cup & Saucer

This is a cup and saucer made by Gotha around 1810. Gotha is probably the best of the Thuringia makers in terms of quality of the paste and painting. They existed from 1757 until 1937 in one form or another. This cup and saucer is handpainted with a scene in sepia colors on the front of the cup and the inside of the saucer. Ruin landscapes which is very typical of their pieces. The words on the cup are Andenken von FA Sambeth and on the saucer An seinen Onkel F Sebastiani in Augsburg. Nice gold trim around the rim with some gilding to the edges and handle. The set is in good condition with a little wear to the high spots of the scene in the saucer and a small inside rim chip to the cup and a hairline across the bottom part of the handle. Both pieces are marked underneath with the underglaze blue G. mark. The cup is 2.25 inches tall and 2.375 inches in diameter. The saucer is 1 inch tall and 4.75 inches in diameter.
