Gotha Black Scenic Cup & Saucer

This is a cup and saucer made by Gotha around 1775. Gotha is probably the best of the Thuringia makers in terms of quality of the paste and painting. They existed from 1757 until 1937 in one form or another. This cup and saucer is another superb example of Gotha's work. It is in the classicism style and has a handpainted scene in schwarzlot (black) on the front of the cup and the inside of the saucer. Ruin landscapes as is very typical of their pieces. Nice gold trim around the scenes, the rims and the handle. The set is in good condition with a hairline on the rim of the saucer. Both pieces are marked underneath with the underglaze blue R mark. The cup is 2.625 inches tall and 2.5 inches in diameter. The saucer is 5.25 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or photos.
