Gotha Cup & Saucer

This is a cup and saucer made by Gotha around 1790. Gotha is probably the best of the Thuringia makers in terms of quality of the paste and painting. They existed from 1757 until 1937 in one form or another. This cup and saucer is another superb example of Gotha's work. It is in the classicism style and has a handpainted scene in sepia colors on the front of the cup and the inside of the saucer. Ruin landscapes which is very typical of their pieces. Nice gold trim around the scenes, the rims and the handle. The set is in super condition with light gold wear almost exclusively to the saucer. Both pieces are marked underneath with the underglaze blue R.g. mark. The cup is 2.25 inches tall and 2.375 inches in diameter. The saucer is 1.125 inches tall and 5 inches in diameter.
