Gotha Cup & Saucer #2

This is a rare Gotha coffee can and saucer painted with landscape paintings. Dating to the early 19th century, this set is a rare survivor from the Gotha porcelain factory, founded in 1757. The ceramics scholar W. B. Honey states that landscape painting in monochrome red-brown was an invention of this factory, much copied in later days by the other Thuringian factories. The inscription on this set, intended as a gift, reads, “Aus Liebe und guten Herzen” (Out of Love and a Good Heart) and “Zum Andenken” (In Memory). The saucer is 4 and 3/4 inches in diameter. There is no damage, but the gilding is rubbed in places and there is slight wear to the painting. This piece belongs to a good friend of mine! Please email me for more information or photos.

Price is $799
