Fancy Scenic Cup & Saucer

This is a fun cup and saucer made by a Hoechst in the mid 18th century during their early years. The set is handpainted with a superb fruit and bird pattern on the saucer and one side of the cup surrounded by colorful scrols, a few scattered bugs - even on the inside of the cup - a puc trim to the handle and a gold trim to the edges. The cup has another scene on the other side but this one is done in puce and of a landscape with people and a building in it. Never seen a combination like this on any cup - two different style scenes on one piece. A fun set for sure! The set is in great condition with a little wear to the gold trim mostly on the saucer, a tiny bit of wear to the scene on the saucer,a glaze flaw to the saucer and a crack on the bottom of the handle - a common occurance on 18th century cups. A bit of flaking to the paint of the fruit scene on the cup. Both pieces are marked with painted wheel marks - red on the cup and puce on the saucer. The saucer also has a puce G mark underneath and the cup has 1N impressed underneath. The cup is 1.625 inches tall and 3 inches in diameter. The saucer is 1.125 inches tall and 4.875 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
