Jacob Petit 3D Flowers Basket

This is a really superb basket shaped box made in the Paris region of France by one of their most well known maker - Jacob Petit - in the early to mid 19th century. One of the neater peices I ahve seen by them! It is a box made to look like a basket. The bottom is jsut the basket part with a wicker type look to the outside highlighted in light blue and gold but the best part is the top. Normally the andle would be part of the bottom but here it is attached to the lid so when you lifted the whole thing comes off. It is very heavy! The entire lid is decorated with very detailed 3D flowers and leaves that look stunning. Lots of different types and colors. The handle has a nice twisted branch look with a large flower and its leaves to the top all highlighted with gilding. Really a neat peice. What makes it even more special is that the flwoers are in amazing condition. There are a couple of very minor chips but honestly I cannot beleive that they survived in this condition! As close to perfect as you will ever see. The bottom of the piece displays perfectly as well but upon very very close inspection with a bright light shining through it one can find that ther is a crack running down one side and into the bottom - probably halfway through. It was restored to a very high standard and looks perfect. All in all a really fun piece and a perfect spot to hide your candy from your family or anything else for that matter :) The piece is marked underneath with a faint J.P. mark due to the retoration over spray. It would probably be more visible if it were not for that. The entire piece including the handle is 7.5 inches tall, 10.25 inches wide and 5 inches deep.
