Animal Scenes Pot

This is a lidded coffee pot made by KPM in the 18th century. KPM used no painters mark like the red orb yet during this period thus you only have the blue scepter and impressed marks most of the time. The piece is hand painted with an animal scene on either side including sheep, a goat and a donkey in landscape surroundings. A smaller matching scene including a sheep can be found on the lid. Animal scenes are much harder to find than most so this is a welcome change from the more usual examples. The handle and spount have a nice relief design to them highlighted with gilding. The top rim of the pot and outer rim of the lid have a great basket weave design to the paste painted in yellow with gold designs over that. The lid has a nice floral finial to it. The set displays nicely but the pot has had its spout restored which has since yellowed and the area where the handle attaches at the top has some hairlines around that area as shown. Not sure how that happened. Still displays nicely and is a rare example! The lid is in superb condition with some minor damage to some flower petals but it displays perfectly! The piece is 6.625 inches tall with the lid and 3.25 inches in diameter. It is marked underneath with the under glaze blue scepter mark as shown.
