Animal Scenes Sugar Dish

This is a lidded sugar dish made by KPM in the 18th century. KPM used no painters mark like the red orb yet during this period thus you only have the blue scepter and impressed marks most of the time. The main body is hand painted with an animal scene on either side including goats and a sheep in landscape surroundings. A smaller matching scene including two sheep can be found on the lid. Animal scenes are much harder to find than most so this is a welcome change from the more usual examples. The top rim of the pot and outer rim of the lid have a great basket weave design to the paste painted in yellow with gold designs over that. The lid has a nice floral finial to it with two leaves. The set is in perfect condition with just one small spot of gold wear to the very edge of the lid which is amazing given its age. The piece is 3.625 inches tall with the lid and 3.375 inches in diameter. It is marked underneath with the under glaze blue scepter mark as shown. Price is $999
