Kurland Tureen w/Underplate

This is a rare treat - a lidded turreen with its underplate made by KPM around 1790. The Kurland service was just designed during this time for Peter Biron who was the Duke of Kurland . He order the set in 1790 so there is a good chance this piece is from the original set but at least it is as old as it gets for this famous and still very desirable service. KPM used no painter's mark like the red orb yet during this period thus you only have the blue scepter and impressed marks most of the time and sometimes as in this case a line or cross as a painter's mark. The set is hand painted with one of KPM's most famous designs the Kurland design with the turquoise ground color and gold swags as well as some floral arrangements and butteflies / bugs. The flowers are very reminiscent of the famous Fleur en Terrasse ones in terms of style and are exquisite. Nice handles to the tureen and a round finial to the lid. The underplate is in perfect condition which is nice. The tureen's main body is also in perfect condition but sadly the lid has cracked and was reglued with a tiny sliver missing on the underside. It would be a fairly easy fix if need be but even this way is displays nicely and is rare enough to be special. The small platter is 1.125 inches tall, 8.25 inches wide and 6.125 inches deep. The terrine is 4 inches tall, 8.25 inches wide and 4 inches deep. Both are marked underneath with the underglaze blue scepter mark as shown as well as the painter's marks I mentioned before. The platter has two incised lines near the foot ring and the tureen has an incised 39 underneath. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
