Armorial Plate w/Views Of Berlin #1

This is a really nice plate made by KPM around 1840. The plate is nicely hand painted with a large and fancy armorial in the center in mainly blue and gold. It has a lon holding a key, a princess holding some flowers and a knight holding a flag and cross to the top part, three crowned knight helmts below that a large crown with jewels below that and the coats of arms in a shield form including the lion holding a key, a knight on top of a horse, a brodige over a river and another lion holding a cross. Probably made for a wedding of some importance. I think this sort of crown is for a Count or Countess ( Graf oder Gräfin ). The rim has the Reliefzierat mit Spalier design to it - a molded relief design to the borders with a delicate trellis artwork in the form of flowering branches in gold. In between this design are three catouches with very detailed hand painted scene from the city of Berlin. One of the scenes has the Königsstädtische Theater on it which was in use from 1824 until 1851. The theater sat on the famous Alexanderplatz and does not exist anymore. Another scene shows the Circus bei Berlin I believe refers to Rudolph Brilloff who ran an equestrian troupe in the Kingdom of Prussia around this time. And the third scene is of Singakademie in Berlin which is a building for a musical society. Three superb scenes plus and armorial and some superb gold work make this a very special plate. The only downside is that it has a large chip to the front and in the same spot to the back as shown. The chip to the front was gilded a bit to hide it quite well and it still displays very nicelyWhen on the wall your eye does not automatically go to the flaw so that is nice. A touch of minor use marks./wear but is relaly does look amazing for almsot 200 years old! The plate is marked underneath with the under glaze blue KPM under a scepter mark used from 1837 until 1844 plus a gold painter's mark. Oddly enough this one does not have the red orb mark but the other pieces I have from this set all have that mark as well. Impressed number and three lines along the foot ring as shown. Each scene is labelled in the back in black German script as shown. The plate is 1.375 inches tall and 10.125 inches in diameter so a very nice size!
