Armorial Plate w/Views Of Berlin #5

This is a really nice plate made by KPM around 1840. The plate is superbly hand painted with a large and fancy armorial in the center in mainly blue and gold. It has a lion holding a key, a princess holding some flowers and a knight holding a flag and cross to the top part, three crowned knight helmets below that a large crown with jewels below that and the coat of arms in a shield form including the lion holding a key, a knight on top of a horse, a bridge over a river and another lion holding a cross. Probably made for a wedding of some importance. I think this sort of crown is for a Count or Countess ( Graf oder Gräfin ). The rim has the Reliefzierat mit Spalier design to it - a molded relief design to the borders with a delicate trellis artwork in the form of flowering branches in gold. In between this design are three catouches with very detailed hand painted scene from the city of Berlin. One of the scenes has the Opernhaus in Berlin which is the State Opera and happens to be the oldest state opera in the world. The buidling got damaged during WWII but was rebuild. Another scene shows the Vordere Hof der Königs Post - the historic front courtyard of Berlin's former Royal Post Office. I don't believe this exists anymore. The third scene show the Universität in Berlin which refers to the Humboldt university. The building still exists and the university is world famous. .Three superb scenes plus an armorial and some superb gold work make this a very special plate. The plate is in superb condition with just a touch of very minor wear (mainly to the top lion of the armorial which looks a tiny bit touched up as well) but it is as nice as they come especially for almost 200 years old! Some tiny orange rush colored marks in one of the trellise panels. Not sure what that is from. It looks amazing and has everything going for it! The plate is marked underneath with the under glaze blue KPM under a scepter mark used from 1837 until 1844 plus a red dot as a painter's mark and the red orb mark as shown. Impressed number 34 and three lines along the foot ring as shown. Each scene is labelled in the back in black German script as shown. The plate is 1.375 inches tall and 10.25 inches in diameter so a very nice size! Please email me for more information or other pictures.
