Bird Scene Sugar Shaker

This is a sugar caster or shaker made by KPM around 1780. Quite a rare piece and definitely the nicest one I have owned by them from this period. And quite large, too. The front and back have superb handpainted bird scenes, the rim has a nice raised design highlighted by gilding and in between are lots of top quality butterflies scattered around. The top has lots of holwes pierced into it for the sugar to come out of and there is a finial on the very top in the form of a flower. This is made of one piece - I have also seen some that unscrew but in this case there is a hole in the bottom to fill the piece and plug up with a cork that is off course long gone! The quality is really superb and it is in perfect condition on top of that which is amazing! The pot is marked underneath with the scepter in underglaze blue and an impressed I or something like that on the footring. The piece is 7 inches tall and 3.5 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
