Giant Platter

This is a huge round platter / serving dish made by KPM around 1780. It is 2.75 inches tall and 15.25 inches in diameter! Amazing that it has survived all these years in pretty much the same condition as when it was first made. The piece is hand painted with one of my favorite Kakiemon designs - the Chinese Butterfly pattern. The colors are just superb and it always puts me in a good mood looking at these. The center has the butterfly sitting on a branch with the rim having more Kakiemon colored floral designs. The nicely shaped edge has a brown trim to it. This is a pattern much more common on Meissen so this might have been made as a replacement piece for one that was damaged. The plate is in perfect condition with just a touch of minor wear. It is marked underneath with the scepter in underglaze blue as shown as well as an impressed number and four lines along the foot ring indicating this is the largest size they made. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $1499
