White & Gold Coffee Canister

This is a really interesting coffee jar made by KPM in the mid 19th century . I have never seen this design used as a coffee tin as they are usually used to keep tobacco fresh but it makes perfect sense. Obviously someone was rather smart and thought outside the box but it did not catch on. The design remind me of the Grecque Athena Service made by Fuerstenberg but here we have an earlier KPM design. The piece is decorated with a white and gold design that is quite nice. Sort of like a fan shaped or arch design. The top inside has a lid that is held in place with a brass contraption with a screw in the center to tighten it. The set is in great condition with the brass plate part being bend a it from over tightening it over the years. Still works fine and I am sure it could be straightened out if need be. A flaw to the paste in one spot as shown. The inside rim has coffee written on it - Caffee an earlier German spelling. It displays perfectly! The piece is 4.875 inches tall and 4.375 inches in diameter at the bottom. Marked with the so called penny mark with the scepter above it used during the period of 1849 until 1870 plus the red orb mark as well as some impressed marks as shown. I also have quite a few other pieces from this service up for sale on the site. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $299
