Lithophane Cup & Saucer

This is a cup and saucer made by KPM around 1860. I have known these cups exist but have never seen one in all these years. From the outside it looks fairly plain but it has a nice shape to it with just a bit of gold trim and raised 'pearl' trim to make it very elegant but the suprise is on the inside of the cup when you hold it against the light a picture of an angel appears. A lithophane bottom! The set is in great condition with just a bit of gold wear and a chip to mostly the underside rim of the saucer. An easy fix if need be! There are a few firing flaws on the saucer. The cup is a bit over 3.25 inches tall plus the handle and 3.625 inches in diameter. The saucer is 1 inch tall and 6.375 inches in diameter. The saucer is marked underneath with the underglaze blue scepter and penny mark as well as the red orb mark. Someone tried to make the set look older by removing the penny mark and the red orb mark but the penny mark is impossible to ground out since it is underglaze blue which seeps into the porcelain and goes in deep. The red orb mark is mostly gone but enough is left to see it. There is also an impressed 26 on the saucer. The cup is unmarked for obvious reasons (these are never marked!) since it would kill the lithophane look. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $599
