Martin Luther Portrait Cup & Saucer

This is a cup and saucer made by KPM in the early 19th century during the Biedermeier period around 1815-20. It was made before they used their red orb mark thus you only have the blue scepter and impressed marks / painter's marks most of the time. The painter's marks here are the orange line and dots. The style of the cup is really very sleek and typical of this period but the best part is the portrait to the front of the cup of Dr. Martin Luther. It is very well painted. Some nicely placed gold trim and a full gilding (except the very bottom) of the inside make this a very elegant set. The saucer simply has two gold lines and the his name in black in the center. Somewhere in the distant past I am related to this guy which might explain the stubbornness running in my family :) My brother is really into genealogy and he has found some really interesting things through it. I don't have the time or patience for it but it's really neat to see his work on it. Both pieces are in great condition with just the most minor of wear to the gilding. As nice as you will find! The cup is 4.125 inches tall including the handle and just under 3 inches in diameter. The saucer is 1 inch tall and just under 5.5 inches in diameter. Both pieces are marked underneath with the under glaze blue scepter mark as well as the painter's marks and impressed marks as shown. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
