Faux Micromosaic Cup

This is an amazing cup made by KPM in the early 19th century about 1805. It is hand painted with a superb design of a moth in the micromosaic style or en mosaique surrounded by a nice gold trim with raised designs to it. The faux micromosaic design is just amazing - off course the originals originated in ancient Rome but became popular again in the early 19th century because of the Grand Tour trips across Europe and the souvenirs that came with it. KPM was one of the few makers that translated these designs onto porcelain and it became a very desirable piece to own. They are quite rare these days. The rest of the cup has a black ground color to it with a nice floral type design to either side and an amazing gold and red trim to the top and bottom with raised details in black and gold to it. The handle is just superb - a pink snake biting its own tail with the scale and head detailed painted in gold. The cup is 2.875 inches tall and 3 inches in diameter. It is marked underneath with the underglaze blue scepter mark with a blue line above it which is probably a painter's mark of the period as well as an impressed number as shown. The cup is in superb condition with some very minor wear to the top edge and top part of the snake as shown. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
