Menzel Art Nouveau Scenic Tea Caddy

This is a tea acaddy / jar made by KPM in the early 20th century. A tpical shape for a tea caddy but a very nice decoration! It is hand painted with a scene to the front of a Palace looking building - I think it might be the Orangery Palace in Potsdam . The scene is very much in the colors and style of the Art Nouveau / Jugendstil period of the time. The scene was painted by the famous Julius Menzel who is one of my favorite painter's of this period at KPM. The back of the caddy has a large hand painted floral arrangement to it and each side has a small floral design to it. The shoulders of the caddy and the edge of the lid have a basket weave design to the paste with a bit of gold trim. Nice gilded flower with two leaves as the finial on the lid. The set is in perfect condition and marked underneath with the under glaze blue scepter as well as the red orb, the signature of the painter and some other artist marks from this period as shown. The jar with its lid in place is 4.125 inches tall, 2.25 inches wide and 1.5 inches deep. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $599
