Locre Black Scenic Plate #2

This is a superb plate made by Locre aka Rue de la Fontaine-au-Roi aka La Courtille in the late 18th century and painted by Louis-Pierre Alexandre Cretté. He worked for Locré in Paris, Rue de la Fontaine-au-Roi and is especially famous for his scenes en grissailles (all in black). Later on he moved to Brussels and settled there as an independent porcelain painter, at first importing white porcelain from Paris. He marked his wares "L. Cretté a brux" in red overglaze and blue crossed underglaze swords (Locré). Around 1800 he founded his own factory in Elsene with the help of porcelain maker Gabriel Ferdinand Morteleque but it closed a short time later around 1803. Faber, an old student of his bought the closed down factory in 1820. The plate here is nicely hand painted in the center with a black landscape scene including a people building a bridge over a river, a boat as well as some buildings and trees. A really good quality scene with lots of detail and a nice rim design of gilt stars and two gold rings. The plate is in superb condition with just a little wear to the gilding but none that takes away from the piece at all! The plate is marked underneath with the under glaze blue crossed arrow or torches mark as shown. There is also a gold A.C. underneath. The plate is 1.125 inches tall and 9 inches in diameter.
