Scenic Plate #5

This is a great plate made by Ludwigsburg between 1759 and 1770. It is handpainted with a superb scene in the center of a landscape with a large bulding in it that might be a monastery, a body of water with a dock on it to the right and a monk (he is holding a cross) walking along. There is a nice design under the scene in puce, blue and gold. The rim has a basketweave design to it called the Osier relief with some handpainted flowers on it and a nice gold edge. The glaze on these early pieces is so thick that is covers the basketweave design completely unlike most other makers. These scenic pieces are just superb and are among my favorite pieces. The plate is marked with the CC mark under the crown in underglaze blue and an impressed 2 on the footring. It is 1.125 inches tall and 9.75 inches in diameter. It is in great condition with just some very minor wear. Please email me for more information or photos.

Price is $999
