Marie Antoinette Fruit Cooler

This is a fruit cooler made by Rue Thiroux also known as Fabrique de la Reine. Marie Antoinette was a patron of this maker and thus they were allowed to use the A under a crown mark. This fruit cooler is a rare find. It is handpainted with roses and small blue flowers as well as a gold trim. This piece dates to about 1780. The lidded cooler is in great condition with an old firing crack to the bottom rim that developed into a very minor and short hairline plus very minor wear to the gilding. It might have or might not have had an insert. Some did some didn't but the lid is a little smaller than the pot which indicates either is shrunk more during the firing process or it had an insert. No big deal really. The set measures 9.5 inches tall and 8.25 inches in diameter. It is marked with the red crown over the letter A mark underneath a bit faded over time but it is there plus two incised lines. The lid has an incised number 27 underneath.
