Scenic Snuff Box

This is a snuff / patch /pill box made by Meissen around 1750. This is a really nice example in terms of the painting. It has seven handpainted nice quality merchant / harbor scenes on it as well as some nice relief scroll work and gilding on the inside. There are large scenes on the top, the inside of the top and the bottom and four smaller scenes on all four sides. The inside part is entirely gilded. The quality of the scenes is very nice but not s good as on my other piece! The mounts on this piece are gold which means it must have been very special even back then since many were just gilded silver and very few were actual gold. The gold mounts are marked as shown with a number 8 or something along those lines. The box is in OK condition - the lid is perfect as are the mounts but sadly the bottom was broken and is reglued something I will probably have improved by my restorer! The gold mounts come off the bottom part easily which is probably how it was damaged. The box is not marked which is normal but the piece speaks for itself. The snuff box is about 1.625 inches tall, 2.625 inches wide and 2 inches deep. The gold mounts are superbly decorated as well as can be seen in the pictures. They work perfectly! Sorry about the lousy pics - am still learning the ins and outs of the new camera! Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $3999
