Forgetmenots Scenic Plate

This is a rare treat - a Meissen plate made in about 1745 and decorated in the Vergissmeinnicht design. I could only find two other pieces in this design and neither had scene included - one had birds and the other had flowers. The plate has a basket weave or trellis type design in relief to the entire piece with the forget me nots painted in the open spaces in between and four scenes along the rim surrounded by some nice gilding with black highlights. The nicely shaped edge has gilding on it as well. The Vergissmeinnicht design was developed at the same time as the much more famous and common Schneeballen design and I guess we all know which became more popular :) The plate in perfect condition which makes this a very special piece. It is 1.5 inches tall and 10.125 inches in diameter. It is marked with the underglaze blue crossed swords mark underneath as shown as well as an incised 14. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $2499
