Basketweave & Floral Lidded Cup & Saucer

This is a really nice and early lidded cup & saucer made by Meissen in the 1740s. The cup doesn't have a number on it yet so the porcelain was probably made jsut a touch before 1740 and decorated a little bit later. A piece with its lid is not something one sees very often from this period so it was nice to find! Each piece has a basket weave design in relief to the paste along the rim, a gold trim to the edge or the saucer and lid with a bit of gold trim to the handle which has a very ncie shape to it typical of this period. They are all hand painted with some nice early Deutsche Blumen style flowers still influenced a bit by the Woodcut style flowers. The saucer has a nice larger floral arrangement as well as some single flowers, the cup is decorated the same way and the lid has a few small flowers to it as well as a nice floral finial. The set is in great condition with a little wear to the gilding and the finial on the lid was broken off and reattached and also has some chipping to the petals as shown. The setdisplays superbly and is a very nice example! The saucer is about 1 inch tall and 5.375 inches in diameter, the cup is 2.875 inch tall and 2.5 inches in diameter and the lid would add about 1.375 inches in height and has a diameter of 2.625 inches. The cup and saucer are both marked with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark as shown and the saucer has an impressed number 2 underneath where the under glaze swords mark is.
