Art Nouveau Sailboat Scene Plate

This is a rare Art Nouveau / Jugendstil porcelain plate made by Meissen around 1900. Meissen missed the train a bit in terms of Art Nouveau / Jugendstil and thus their pieces are much harder to find than those of other makers of this period. There is a whole series of these plates of which I own quite a few but I have never seen this design before. Really quite nice! The plate is hand painted with a superb scene covering the entire center which includes a large sail boat with three people in it sailing on the green and blue water with some more sailboats in the background. The smaller ones almost look like icebergs :) The rim left in white makes the scene pop more and turns this into a super elegant plate! This plate is in great condition with some use marks but since the design is in under glaze colors it does not affect it and the piece displays perfectly! The plate is just over 0.75 inches tall and 10.375 inches in diameter so rather large. It is marked underneath with the under glaze blue crossed swords (frist choice) as well as the usual impressed marks. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $849
