Art Nouveau Plate

This is a rare Art Nouveau / Jugendstil porcelain plate made by Meissen around 1900. One sees this style of painting much more often at Nymphenburg where Rudolph Sieck painted in this style but Meissen made very few in this style as well and they are superb! The plate is handpainted with the superb scene in the center of a birch tree by a small brook in a grass landscape. The scene covers the entire center and with the rim left white it has a very elegant effect which was the point during this period. An amzing plate! This plate is in perfect condition. It is just over 1 inch tall and 10.625 inches in diameter so rather large. It is marked underneath with the underglaze blue crossed swords as well as the usual impressed marks. By the mark and a bit away from it some brown spots were ground down but it was done after the first firing and before the glaze was applied so it has no meaning.
