Bird Scene Charger

This is an early porcelain platter / charger / giant plate / serving dish made by Meissen during the Marcolini period in the late 18th century. It is hand painted with a large bird scene in the center including a blue tit I beleive and some sorf of jay maybe sitting in a small tree with a little landscape below. The rim has quite a few bugs scattered about and a nice gold trim to the edge. I am always amazed that these large piece survived since they were meant for use but the piece has no chips, etc. but there is some wear to the gold trim and the central scene as shown. The piece is 2 inches tall and 13 inches in diameter. Marked underneath with the underglaze blue crossed swords as well as the star, a blue line along the foot ring as well as the usual impressed numbers, etc. as shown. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $749
