Birth of Venus Scenic Cup

This is a superb cup made by Meissen in the later 19th century. It is hand painted with a superb scene to the front of the birth of Venus after Cabanel including the nude goddess lying down surrounded by water with two cherubs / angels flying above. The scene is surrounded by some fancy gilding with the rest of the outside having that superb deep cobalt blue ground color with more fancy gilding over that. The inside rim has a nice gold trim to it as well and there is a gold medallion on the bottom inside as shown. Nice handle shape with a touch of gold trim to it. This is one amazing cup of superb quality! It is in perfect condition and is marked underneath with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark (first quality) as well as the title - in German - Geburt der Venus and the original artist name - Cabanel for Alexandre Cabanel who was a French artist that painted his painting in 1863. The cup is 2.5 inches tall and 3.375 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $699
