Blue Onion Nutcracker

This is the one of those rare items made by Meissen in the late19th century - a nutcracker. Nutcrackers are rather rare to begin with in this style but the Meissen ones are almost impossible to find and I have only seen one other blue onion decorated one before this one. The piece is handpainted with the famous Blue Onion design all around with the tiny crossed swords in the bottom of the stalk. The piece is in superb condition with some oxidation to the metal parts. The two round handles have been ground on either end to fit the usually very nice brass workings but since this one was deemed to be a second choice it ended up having more simple metal works and the ground areas show on the handles. No big deal and quite normal. No real damage or wear otherwise. The piece is about 4.25 inches tall (when screwed down all the way), 4.5 inches wide and 3.125 inches deep. It is marked underneath with the underglaze blue crossed swords mark with two cuts across the mark, a blue painter's mark 35. and the usual impressed marks as shown. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
