Blue Onion Nutcracker

This is the one of those rare items made by Meissen in the early 20th century - a nutcracker. Nutcrackers are rather rare to begin with in this style but the Meissen ones are almost impossible to find and I have only owned one other blue onion decorated one before this one. The piece is decorated with their famous Blue Onion / Zwiebelmuster design all around with the tiny crossed swords in the bottom of the stalk. The round handles to either end of the metal top piece have a little bit of a blue design on them as well. The piece is in superb condition with some oxidation to the metal parts. The mechanics are very smooth which is typical of their nutcrackers - much nicer than the cheaper versions! The piece is about 4.625 inches tall (when screwed down all the way), 6.25 inches wide including the handles and 3.25 inches deep. It is marked underneath with the underglaze blue crossed swords mark (first choice!), a blue painter's mark 84. and the usual impressed / incised marks as shown and GERMANY. A really nice piece! Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $1749
